Zagorje, a region close to the Croatian capital, is a real treasure trove of natural beauty, rich flavors and quality wines that ripen in the famous Zagorje vineyards. Wine is one of the best assets of Zagorje and you can't leave here without tasting it, so here are some guidelines on which locations to look for and which wines to try.
In a small town near Krapina, there is a restaurant Vuglec Breg surrounded by Zagorje hills, and right next to it there is an eponymous winery. Baronial brut is definitely worth trying here, which is a sparkling wine produced by the classic method. Apart from sparkling wine, you can taste white and red wines of the Chardonnay, Rhine Riesling, Graševina, Sauvignon, etc.
Gourmets and wine lovers usually fall in love with Vinski vrh Bolfan as well the local restaurant and winery. The real art of their viticulture is Pinot Noir. The representative wine of the Petrač Winery is Karizma, which will delight even the biggest critics with its charisma, as will Hršak breg, where the winery is located. The Zdolc Winery in Klenice is characterized by a century-old tradition of viticulture and a quality offer. Their sauvignon particularly stands out and you can try it while visiting and touring the winery. When visiting the Kopjar Winery, their cellars and wine shop, you must try the multi-award-winning Graševina, and look for the Sokol variety at the Sever Winery in Bedekovčina.
Ice wines with the signature of Bodren Winery are a real magic of taste, especially the Rhine Riesling, and you can try it in their winery in Hum na Sutli. In the vicinity of Kumrovec you can visit the Prekratić Winery, and be welcomed by winemakers at the Micak Winery in Marija Bistrica.
